Who are the priests who stop working in a parish?

There are some people who behind our backs gossip that the priests who leave active priesthood were never true priests. This is understood in the sense that there was something missing in their priesthood. They were too weak psychologically or emotionally, so they left! Well, prejudices are difficult to overcome.  But common experience will work wonders. Just meeting other priests who got married, it's very clear that some of them were the most sensitive to pastoral needs or to a theology/spirituality which reflects the life of today! Most of them wanted a true relationship with other priests.  As some of the news is saying, most of the priests in the parish are sexually active.  They find it very comfortable to lead a double life whilst blaming others who dare to leave the comfort zone and face a relationship with all it's consequences. Hence some people prefer to put the married priests in a very bad situation by describing them as 'weak'! Well we are presenting one of them: Thomas Merton.  Was he weak?

In Ireland, the Catholic faith is at it's lowest ebb! There was the writing on the wall many years ago, yet those in authority expected the common people to hide all problems under the carpet and just pray and pay! Well the tide is in and things have changed radically.  Let's not blame the journalists or the people who oppose any manipulation by the clergy. In southern Europe, people still come to church in important activities so apparently faith is still there, yet in the daily common life they do take decisions which are surely not in line with that of the pope!

Reading a lot of material on the internet and other media, it seems that the majority has opposed such a move.  All people are of the idea that when one changes religion it's not because one has a grudge against something or someone especially when in other matters they don't agree with our teaching. So it's solving one problem and creating one million! In the long run it's going to be a big mistake.  Besides that we are happy because it has moved married priesthood in the frontline again.  The pope has been the greatest asset in this sense believe it or not!

As married priests, most of us have children.  The children grow and start to take decisions...well is it painful for a father or mother ?

Some historical notes about married priesthood.

Clerical marriages were not declared invalid until 1123. Most of the disciples were married, including Peter, the first Pope.

After the fourth-century Nicene creed, Pope Siricius in 385 declared that priests may no longer sleep with their wives. In 580, Pope Pelagius II decided not to bother married priests as long as church property was not handed to their wives or children.

Alongside this worldly consideration came the bizarre statements about sexuality from Gregory the Great and Thomas Aquinas, effectively declaring all carnal enjoyment sinful.

Through the centuries, the Roman church has suffered from this ambivalence, with dire sexual consequences and continual cheating of the rules. Pope Benedict's offer is not all that generous, and it will not work. Does the Pope envisage a two-tier system? Ex-Anglican married priests yes but other married priests no??

Now it's proven scientifically that celibacy has to do with sexual abuse.  This is a research work which took about 10 years to complete.  Just go to books for those who wish to go deep down on any particular subject.
